Bible Study

If you're searching for your spiritual path through this life and are wondering what the scripture really says about a woman’s right to make her own decisions or what Jesus said about transgender people or if gay marriage is banned by the Bible, then join us for our twice-monthly Bible Study sessions. Ours is not like many of the other bible study groups offered by churches. We don’t read scripture literally, acting as if every word that has been translated in the translation we are reading has the meaning we ascribe to it. We use reason to balance the words in the text – which were often edited in antiquity and have been translated from Hebrew or Aramaic into English – with our understanding of Anglican tradition. Striking this balance allows us to evolve our undemanding of what God is saying to God’s people. Through this process, the Episcopal Church has come to support a woman’s right to make her own health decisions. We welcome and ordain women, transgender people, gay men, and lesbian women. We marry same-sex couples, cherish their children, and offer a “Service of Renaming” to trans people. All of this flows from our understanding of God’s word and wisdom.

Twice a month we gather to study the Bible, share stories, and get to know each other a little better. Bible Study runs from fall to spring on Sundays when Fr. Tom is celebrating the Eucharist.  Our sessions start after people have time to stop by Coffee Hour and then continue for 30 to 45 minutes. Please contact Fr. Tom at church (203.934.3437) if you have any questions.
